Michael Vogt wurde 1970 in Graz geboren und studierte an der Universität für Musik und darstellende Kunst Graz bei Hildgund Posch. Weiterführende Studien absolvierte er von 1990 bis 1993 am Conservatoire national supérieure de musique et de danse de Paris bei Philippe Muller. Dort erhielt er erste Preise in den abschließenden Wettbewerben für Kammermusik und Cello-Konzertfach.
Nach Studien bei Mitgliedern des Alban Berg Quartetts entwickelte er eine rege Tätigkeit als Kammermusiker und Solist im In- und Ausland. Seit 1994 ist Michael Vogt Mitglied der Cellogruppe der Wiener Symphoniker, seit 2012 deren 1. Solocellist. Er spielt auf einem Violoncello von Giovanni Grancino, Mailand 1705, aus der Sammlung der Dkfm. Angelika Prokopp Privatstiftung.
Michael Vogt was born in 1970 in Graz and studied at the local University of Music and Performing Arts under Hildgund Posch. He finished additional studies in the years from 1990 to 1993 at the Conservatoire national supérieure de musique et de danse de Paris under Phillipe Muller. There he received his first prices at chamber music and cello competitions. After studying under members of the Alban Berg Quartet he worked as a chamber musician and soloist in and outside of Austria. Since 1994 Michael Vogt is a member of the cello group of the „Wiener Symphoniker“ and since 2012 the leading soloist on the cello. He plays the cello Giovanni Grancino, Mailand 1705 on loan from the Dkfm. Angelika Prokopp Privatstiftung.
